NARRAGANSETT RESIDENCE

3RD PLACE RESIDENTIAL DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION

Project Objective
Create useful living space off of the formal living room, which would address the existing slope, exterior circulation and take advantage of bay views.

Project Description
This cottage style home overlooking Narragansett Bay was lacking exterior spaces that capitalized on the wonderful setting and distant views of Beaver Tail Lighthouse. The vernacular of the architecture required simple lines, traditional materials and modest formality. The bluestone terrace was leveled and retained using granite curbing and was blended into the landscape with plantings. Existing elevation changes in and outside the structure required several steps and landings be incorporated into the design.

Planting design was intended to highlight the space without distraction. This was achieved through limiting the plant pallet and repeating masses of high performing shrubs and perennials.

Project Elements

  • Granite stairs & terrace edging;
  • Random pattern bluestone;
  • Landscape lighting;
  • High performing shrubs and perennials to extend bloom time and visual interest.
